Testing speed hooks and hammock anchors

This weekend on our spring outing I tested the anchors and speed hooks with Kevlar string.

Only catch is that you can't splice the hollow line. I tried. So you have to use proper fishing knots to keep the strength of the line. One end I looped it onto a Dutch clip, the other onto a loop alien to connect to the Kevlar webbing. I didn't want Kevlar on Kevlar since the line could technically cut if lots of friction occurred. It worked great.

One thing to note is that if you aren't careful in your line placement you do not want Kevlar line contacting your tarp.

Actually I didn't. Didn't think about it till after. Essentially replaced 7/64th Amsteel with Kevlar line. Where it loops over on the anchor/speed hook you do a double twist and it doesn't move.
I should just use line on hugger to see if there is any short term visible evidence of wear on the hugger. It's not the same as two kite strings sawing at each other under tension.

I'm sure this has been asked and answered before, but why don't you want the kevlar touching your tarp?

If it's against the tarp it could rub in windy conditions. Might cause wear points.

Cheers, i only ask because speed hooks are new to me and i'm a loopalien fanboy.

Couple more questions if i may, how were you using the loopaliens exactly and have you got a link for the kevlar cordage?

I have those speed hooks, and tried them out. I was all excited about how simple it was, and how you could adjust all of the way up to the tree.
I really disliked them. I was used to the quick and easily adjusting from my ucr's, which these speed hooks did not provide. Maybe I just need to play with them more, but after 2 nights my amsteel was all chewed up looking, so I went back to ucr's.
I'm hoping the new version will be better.

My interest in speed hooks is because i'v been unknowingly using large UFA loopaliens in a very similar manner. i'v only had a few nights on them and some test hangs but so far the amsteel looks as good as new, so maybe they are a bit kinder to the cordage than speed hooks

They chewed up my Amsteel pretty good too. I used them three or four times then went back to Dutch Whoopie hooks.

Curious where you got the Kevlar line, the size of line, weight capacity and weight per foot.
