0 degree HG UQ and I was very cold at 18 degrees

I borrowed a 0 degree hg uq this past weekend in Wisconsin, I couldn't get warm, I had a zero degree bag unzipped as a top quilt, and was warm on top but my butt and back were always chilled. Had 6 people help adjust it and they all use quilts. Does anyone or had anyone else had the problem of bring such a cold sleeper that an uq doesn't do it. I also only had a thin layer of fleece on

More than likely suspension not tight enough. Maybe cinch ends to tight or loose. Secondary suspension pulled tight enough?
Here is some UQ intel thatmay offer insight.....https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...mBYSPGHjdyGqsL

Never had a problem with quilts and i sleep cold.
So either the suspension was wrong
Or the quilt may have lost its loft.

When its laid on the floor how much loft is there to the quilt?

Also were you cold from the beginning or started to get cold in the night?

I warmed up my body with good food hot drink and some physical activity, then crawled in with a hot water bottle and a small piece of reflectix just under my butt, my legs were up in my "top quilt" synthetic 0 degree bag plus fleece bag, from were my to top quilt ended, underneath my legs, and up got chilled, not cold cold, but enough not to be able to sleep

I agree with others on the suspension. I can tell world of difference just by a little tweaking of the suspension lines. Have someone else lay in there for you while you get it adjusted so you can see if you have any gaps. I have taken their 20 degree down into the single digits and been plenty warm so their 0 degree should have no problem handling 18.

I have the 20 incubator long with over stuff to get it to 10F and did everything you just listed (zero bag for topquilt, hot water bottle, foam pad under butt and eat/drank hot foods and walked around before bed) to get warm except I wore a down coat and wool socks, thermals and hat. The temps dropped to 14F and I was surprisingly ok. I sleep very cold as well. Occasionally I'd feel cold feet and move toward the head end to get back in the underquilt and was instantly warm again. I've set my underquilt secondary suspension for asymmetrical lay and main suspension very tight. Laying on my back is perfect but if I side sleep fetal position I get a huge air gap from my thighs down to my calfs so I straighten my legs and I'm warm again. Before bed I try to refluff the down towards the butt and torso area to maximize the loft. After experiencing exactly what you described when I first used the incubator underquilt I really think the cold spots can be fixed between the suspension and redistributing the down. Good luck.

If it was from where your UQ ended to your feet that got cold then it might be the problem,

a fleece bag and top quilt will not really work for unprotected feet and calves underneath as it compresses. So a piece or reflectix in the foot box under your feet and calves should do the trick, if its really cold an inflatable sitpad under your feet will work.

Or its cold air getting in between your underquit and hammock through the night.

At "cold" temps (<20°), any little error in adjustments can cause this problem. I often find the suspension to be too loose like Shug said. More specifically, the foot end/left side. When you're lying down, reach under between the hammock and UQ near your butt then move your hand down towards your left knee (far as you can go without sitting up or changing your lay). Under that knee, you may feel where the UQ really starts to separate causing a big gap; that's where cold air is collecting and moving down to your butt. It took me years to realize this!
