That one probably took about a week of fumbling around for a couple of hours a day. If you are not careful, the string can rub you raw. So I just do it in sessions. Tie for a while and take a break.

That project probably used less than 4 spools of #36 Masons twine. The production line appears to have been moved to Mexico and the quality has suffered greatly.The spools are kind of like Cracker Jacks, you never really know whats inside until you open it up. I am looking for another source.

The hammock pictured weighs right at 2 lbs. But it is a double sized and that weight could be brought down by reducing the number of loops or mesh per row and playing with the length.

They are simple to make. If you can tie a sheet bend and a half hitch you already have all the knowledge you need to make your own.
