    Car Camping Setup

I'm sure there are threads about this but my search didn't come up with anything. I'm making a hammock, bugnet, and tarp for a friend who only car camps. He doesn't care about weight. His only concern is ease of use and comfort.

I'm wondering what suspension and tarp ridge line methods would be easiest. I use whoopie slings and toggles for my hammock and Dutch bling on my tarp. I'm used to thinking of weight saving and not necessarily quick and easy.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated!
    Thanks

Just because you think lightweight first, doesn't mean that those items are also not quick and easy. Most of the dutch bling for tarps can be replaced with small Nite Ize Figure 9's (carabiner version or regular one). For the tarp ridge line itself, many use lash-it/zing-it because it doesn't stretch, doesn't absorb water, can be spliced and is affordable. The fact that it is lightweight, is a bonus. Some also use planer board line, which is a polyester dacron line that has many of the same attributes as zing-it and lash-it and can be found in most outdoor stores with a well stocked fishing section.

As for hammock suspensions, any of the standard suspensions will work well (strap and cinch buckle, whoopie slings, etc). One just needs to find a tree strap material that has an appropriate strength rating and doesn't stretch under load.

    Cheers

    Tarp - Stingerz w/ pre-attached line - easy peasy

Hammock - Straps w/ triangles or cinch buckles and carabiners

Elephant Trunk (see Wilderness Logics) for Hammock, Under quilt, Top quilt and pillow
    Have sherpas, will travel...
Triangles, it's all about the triangles.

I know everyone here hates ENO, but the Atlas Strap suspension is as easy as it gets. There are other vendors with similar offereings if the name "ENO" is that offensive to you.

Another very easy, very sturdy, and less expensive hammock suspension option, if weight isn't an issue, is a set of cam buckle or ratchet type straps from Home Depot and the like. I use them in my work truck to string up my cheapo travel hammock on lunch breaks.

    No ENO hate here.
ENO and Grand Trunk were my gateway hammocks.

Own a pair of Atlas straps to this day and still use them with newbies. As you say, easy to use, no fiddling.

Of course then I hook them into all the good stuff.

    Thanks for all the input!

I recently took a group of men (young and old) from the church camping. Mostly for the purpose of taking some boys that don't have fathers on their first camping trip. Pretty cool thing to be a part of.

Anyway, I had people gathered around my hammock, asking questions and wanting to try it out. Thus resulting in me having a list of people to make gear for. Most are new to it gonna be car campers so I wanted to come up with a comfortable, simple, and fun system for them.

I've got it narrowed down and will post what I go with.

    Thanks again!

No ENO hate here either. It was the gateway for me and my wife as well. I like the company. I was also thinking the atlas straps are pretty idiot proof.
