    Frankenquilt lives!

I'm new to hammock camping, and a buddy and I planned an overnight hike. However April in BC can still get near freezing at night. I started exploring options for insulation in addition to my sleeping bag. Thermarest already drives me crazy,Under quilts and even the Hennessy super shelter weren't in the budget. But then I stumbled across two older down sleeping bags for sale on the local buy and sell($30). I have already made a summer synthetic under quilt which worked well, but I wouldn't trust it near freezing. So back the the sewing machine I went....the result....FRANKENQUILT!
Field tested last night with tremendous success. Temps were about 2-4c and I was toasty warm.
So for anyone out there contemplating a diy project , be brave, go for it, you may surprise yourself.
    Cheers all

Nice work. Is the nylon from the bags at all? Finished product looks new to me. Way to go

The original bag was blue ripstop, and I wanted to make two quilts if the experiment worked so I split it across the middle width wise. The. Added the grey ripstop to make it just a bit wider 42" total, and also to seal the edge where I split the original bag. I'll use the other half to make a quilt for my son! The second bag I got is identical but red, I'm thinking top quilt project with that one!
