Heated bag liner, am I missing something?

    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...-r/description
$200 for a heated liner and battery that is claimed to raise the rating of your bag by 20f, for 12 hours, and adds 39oz.
Surely adding down will permanently raise the rating of your system and be lighter to boot?

Or for that matter, using a silk or fleece sleeping bag liner will do a similar job. I will give the company credit for extending their product line from the heated jacket. One may not always want to have extra down in their quilts, its a personal choice. I liken this to those that choose to use an electric blanket on there beds.

    Cheers

Interesting for sure. I think I'll stick with a hot water bottle though. My pack is heavy enough as it is.

I guess it's just good for an overnighter? How are you supposed to recharge it for a second night? I guess you hike to a power outlet and recharge, or carry an extra $75 battery.

Maybe as a pre-heater before you climb in?

If it's USB Rechargable, you could plug it into a Biolite stove and charge that way. I've got one and it works pretty good, but it's not something great for hikers as it's a bit heavy.

Biobrick and a 39 ounce sleeping bag liner - they go perfect together!

You would probably have to burn the entire forest to generate enough power in the Biolite to charge the battery.

It's not a terrible idea though. I use heated gear for riding my motorcycle in the winter and its great. I would think you could make a bag liner and use Carbon Tape for a lighter liner.

This sounds kind of heavy to me. I just add another layer of clothing. To me it don't seem like it would be worth the extra weight. Those hand warmers if your are careful with them would be lighter and I've heard a few guys say they work in your sleeping bag to warm it.
