I actually use my pullouts quite a bit. I don't really think about them differently from the other tie out points, just more options to adapt the tarp to the site. I have a separate guy line for each pullout on my BMJ with a shockcord tensioner. I think about 10ft of line on each, so a bit longer than my corners. I've never not had them work out. I tie them to branches (great shock absorbers too) bushes, clove hitch them to a stick and stake or stake straight out, with a long line that works alright. I do like the look of that no sew pole mod though.. I'll see if I can rig something similar into my current setup without adding any more parts, I despise tent poles even for hammock purposes.

I do the traditional "Y" attachment of guyline from the pullouts, but they are attached via mitten hooks for easy deployment and take down.

I use my pullouts all the time unless I'm in porch mode. The pullouts are on prussiks and this holds onto a short line to attach my hiking poles. This keeps the number of guy lines down and less trip hazards for me.

Old way with guy lines from pull outs to poles to stakes.

You can also use a pole [tent/hiking/branch/etc] outside your tarp.
Pass it thru the pullouts or tie it on close to each one and then put a prussic in the center of the pole... that way you can guy out from the prussic to only one-point.
With your outside corners staked/tied it is quite stable and adds a good bit of room. It also allows you to pull your center point tie-down in closer.

Maybe the over-the-ridge line mod that uses two trekking poles connected at the tips would work for you? Assuming you carry them and haven't committed them to porch mode.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

When in porch mode, you don't need the pullouts on the front side anyways. On the back if needed only. I find if the weather is nice enough for porch mode, then I extend the back of tarp guy lines all the way out opening the tarp anyways(not needing the pull outs). Then when lowering porch mode, put the poles up and attach the pullouts.

These are all the same hang and not carrying any additional gear:
Porch mode with the back opened completely.

Storm coming and dropped porch mode, closed doors.

Do people prefer a solid line or shock cord between the poles and pull outs?
