    Tyvek Tarp help

I had a buddy give me a 9 X 11 peice of Tyvek. Looking for what I could do with it?

I sleep in a 11 ft hammock and wonder if this would be enough coverage if it rains. On the diagonal it is 15 ft long and was thinking of using the Gatorade tops as pullouts. So any of your thoughts and ideas would be great. Thank you in advance.

I made a Tyvek tarp a few years ago and couldn't get over the bulk (I used Tyvek tape for ridgeline and tie-outs). While some have tried sewing, I just couldn't be bothered. I found that the Tyvek "weeped," or maybe it just was prone to condensation. I didn't stay dry. It was a brief experiment (I even had a whoopie sling tarp ridgeline back then, which, by the way, does not work).

Maybe if you have an actual 9 x 11 piece of Tyvek it won't be as bulky as with tape, and the gatorade tops sound like a good idea.

    Good luck!

I also recently made a tyvek tarp and used sheet bend knots on the tieouts, which have worked fine so far. I'd recommend trying not to crease it when packing because the material can be stiff and I'm afraid of weakening it. I usually roll it up for storage and packing.

Cut and sew a mat for you gear and feet to get out of the hammock each night when you get up. Make it into a bag large enough to act as a mat and you can store you hammock, tarp, etc. in.

Thank you for the suggestion. Probably going to cut it up and share it with a couple of others as the ground cloth. They may even get a bag to store it in.

I would leave it as is. 11' should pretty much keep you covered in the rain and you would be able to fold the corners in as partial doors. Keep i mind that when you wash the tyvek to take the stiffness and crackle out of it that the material will shrink a tad.
