    Areas in Northern California

Hello all, this is my first post so please notify me if I do anything wrong/ if something is misplaced. I hail from a region near Sacramento and have been long time backpacker, short time hammock camper. I was wondering if there were any good places near me that people thought were exceptionally good for hammocking (unreachable by tent) or other special spots that people liked that I could travel to and test at.

    All recommendations are appreciated.

PS- any other hangers in NorCal?

Just outside of Sac myself. No special spots offhand other than Sierra. Would be nice to put together a Sac area hang

Are you East or West of Sacramento? I'm on the East side of the County so I've been looking at Eldorado National Forest, Mokelumne Wilderness, and Yosemite. I'm new to the backpacking and hammock camping world so I can't recommend any specific places, but http://www.backpackthesierra.com/ has been a helpful resource.

(Sac area hang would be awesome!)

Input from the Reno, NV perspective. Western Sierras are your best bet. I've tried to find things closer to your side to get a head start on warmer weather at lower elevations to no avail.

Eldorado NF, Desolation Wilderness and Northwest Lake Tahoe are all within two hours of Sac. Paradise Lake --truckee (also google the Peter Grubb Hut), Round Lake --truckee, and Lake Aloha -desolation wilderness, all offer spectacular views. Lots of granite slabs that make tent camping rather uncomfortable but plenty of large pines to hang from.

Here are some shots from Paradise Lake in my last ground system--the good old $35 1+ from Big5.

Another Modesto native here. You might wanna check out some spots in Carson-Iceberg Wilderness as well as Emigrant Wilderness.

I've heard tale that Sonora Pass (up highway 108) may be opening next weekend. Soon as it does, it's gonna be go time. That's where you can usually find me. I try to get out on a backpacking trip at least once a month.

Hey there, I'm just up the hill from you in Colfax (about 10 miles past Auburn)

Get in touch with me. I have several areas within an hour of my house where I like to go. Here's one I did with my wife

A couple of years ago I went on a trip with Fronkey to the Black Buttes, an area I go to quite a bit.

Those two show the area where I tend to go. I also like the Loch Loven lakes area although there are a TON of day hikers there on the weekends. And the PCT goes right through here so we have all that trail to play with. But those videos give a pretty good picture of what's up here.

I'll PM my phone to you. Give me a call and maybe we can find a time to go hang.
