    Advantages of double-sided stuff sack?

    Good morning all.....
All of my stuff sacks, store bought or DIY open on just one end. On my hammock it's always at the head end when hammock is deployed. After furling my tarp, I double it over then stuff it into a stuff sack leaving the ends at the open end. A double-sided stuff sack would be perfect for my tarp. What are some reasons for using a double-sided stuff sack?
Have a great day....sunny and warm here in S.E. Va.

The biggest thing about double sided stuff sacks (also known as Bishop Bags) is they allow you to hang or put away a tarp or hammock very easily with less likelihood of the fabric touching the ground.

and they allow the bag to simply stay on the item. One less thing to keep up with. Open one end, attach to tree. walk to other tree holding the bag and the item (tarp or hammock) pulls out. Open the other end and attach to tree. Just leave the bag on the item. I use them for my hammocks. But for the tarp, I just use Mountain Goats Mesh snake skins (which work the same anyway).

i leave my double sided stuff sack ON the continuous loop on either end when I'm setting up, one less thing to loose, and it's handy when it's time to break camp. i modified my first hammock's stuff sack (the kind sewn on the edge) by removing it (GENTLY) and sewing a hole in the seam at the bottom for the CL of that hammock to slip through in order to keep it handy. works best when you use the corner for the hole by whipping the seam near the corner on the bottom and the side and then cutting the thread out between the whippings.

I'm fairly sure a Bishop bag only opens on one side and has a small opening or grommet on the other allowing suspension lines or the like to pass through. I personally prefer that style and use all of my double ended stuff sacks that way. I can't see the benefit of having both open, but of course I may be using it wrong since I prefer the Bishop style set up.

A bishop bag IS a bit different than a double-ended stuffsack. The bishop has a hole, usually grommeted, in the base, not the two drawstrings that a double-ended has. I like the versatility of the d-e on my hammock due to all the reasons mentioned and because the second drawstring works better around hardware.

For my tarp, I like sleeves and a stuff sack. Sleeves allow me to keep the tarp pitched yet furled, if I choose to be essentially "topless", with the ability to deploy quickly if needed. Once the tarp is in the sleeves, I find it easy to handle with a simple stuff sack with the two ends at the opening. Very tiny extra bit of weight and bulk that I'm happy to tolerate. I briefly toyed with the idea of a d-e ss for the tarp but it seems like too much bother trying to stuff it and keep it off the ground, especially in a wind.

The bag I use for my hammock stays with the hammock when it's deployed. One end is led thru a hole in the bottom of the stuff sack. I always know which end is which and never have problems with it laying on the woodsy floor. I think I'll try one for the tarp. I don't keep any suspension attached and I won't care which end is which, unless I only had one set of doors on the tarp.
    Thanks for feedback...

I like my double ended stuff sack because i can deploy my hammock from either rnd and keep it off the ground while putting it up. Also find it is a handy place to store stuff when setting up. My stake bag, tarp bag, underquilt sack, etc. Everything i need for set up and put away stays together that way I'm less likely to lose something.

Have one I use with two different gathered end hammocks. Most of the time open one end and use it with only one end open. Don't think I've ever used it one time from both ends.
