Buying everything all at once sounds pretty attractive, but the reality is, you will still do a lot of learning, tweaking, and buying. And yes, probably shivering.

I like to compare hammocking to shooting primitive firearms...you just cannot buy your way into proficiency, and in truth, that's one of the things that I like the most.

If you can, try to go to a group hang before you write that big check, and try out a variety of stuff...you'll be glad you did.

I plan to spread the entire bulk purchase over the entire year of 2010. I'm just trying to set up an action plan of sorts. I know I'll tweak along the way and after the purchases are made. What I want to prevent (using your primitive weapons example) is going into my garage and shaking my head because I have over 30 paintball guns hanging there collecting dust; some of which I have never shot. I've been in paintball stores that have less inventory than I do. All but 2 were most likely poorly thought out impulse buys. I'm approaching this hobby in a different way.

The Speer tarp is really not bulky at all surprisingly! You will do well by it.
One piece at time ..... learn to hang that hammock well and perfect the tarp pitch. All goes from there.
Mighty fine and well thought out list.
    I want a paintball gun!!!!!!

Clothing materials are considered breathable if they pass something like 2-4% of moisture. That's about like poking a few holes in a garbage bag. Obviously some materials are more comfortable and breathable than others, but it's still important to remember that "breathable" materials can have nearly the same impact as a VB if you're working hard.
