    Newbie in the AZ Desert

Greetings from Florence, AZ! New to hangin, but already know that I really like the culture (addiction?). Presently using a Wal-Mart special, got a WBBB XLC on order (anxiously waiting delivery daily). Although the wife & I are transplants from Seattle, we love going out in our Jeep and finding a random hanging site in the desert & spending the night; next purchase will be a tarp however for upcoming monsoon season!

Looking forward to communicating & learning with fellow forum members. Awesome site!

Hey, I just drove through Florence the other day on my way to/from the Superstitions. You are only a short drive from some of the best hanging in AZ! The Rogers Trough TH is the closest to you:

Kurt - thanks for the video links, very informative. I have been up to the trailhead a couple of times when jeeping around Montana Mountain but never hiked any trails there. I will now.

Couple of questions for you (if you don't mind):

    > what time of year did you make the hike in your video? Trying to determine if the water sources you displayed are available most/all of the year.

    > kind of water purifying device do you use? Another item I need to get.

The Supes are a wintertime hiking destination for me - November through April. The water sources at the cliff dwellings and Reavis Ranch are both considered perennial.

Purification: I have used a Katadyn Hiker Pro for years for nasty water, and Aquamira drops or tablets for fairly clean sources. Lately I've been using Aquamira more often. Reavis is very clean, the pool at the cliff dwellings can be a little dodgy.
