The Sawyer has an odor that goes away completely after dry. I hate to compare it to the nastiest smell on earth - mothballs - but I can't think of any closer smell.

I think that's a fair comparison. And mothballs are definitely the nastiest smell on earth. A close second would be grease traps. Instant nausea if I smell either one.

It seems more "herbally" to me than mothballs but the scent goes away after it dries completely. I soak everything in it that's not dyneema before a section hike: I dip my hammock and all my clothes (including underwear & hat) and use the same solution to spray my quilts (it doesn't stick too well on those.)

Got the Martin's 10%. They're not joking about shake well; there was a blob of white stuff in a corner of the bottle. I'll mix some of this up and give it a go.

I appreciate all the posts on this subject as I've never tried permethrin before. I had my first tick of the season on me already a few days ago. Hadn't bit me yet fortunately. I just put some of the Martins in my Amazon cart.

Anybody try this? The price is decent and the TSC is just 10 minutes up the road.

I bought the quart size (I think) and diluted it down to approx. 0.5%. Soaked my quilt and bug net, then let it dry in garage with door closed overnight. There was a "smell" that took a couple of more days of "airing" out in the garage. Now, there's no smell at all. I haven't seen any evidence of bugs, but I can't prove anything either!

I used to soak everything but underwear. Now I just mix up some Sawyer's 10% and use the original Sawyer bottle to spray everything until it gets obviously wet and leave it to dry a couple days in the garage.Remember to keep it away from pets.
