On a few occasions on trips, I had to drop my pants really fast. I was glad I didn't have to fight with 12' of webbing around my waist . Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I just had a new strap tear at the cinch buckle, I had everything square in the buckle as soon as I put my weight in the hammock the cinch buckle slipped and the strap was tore half way through.

I am right there with you. Gonna have to inspect more often I think.

Same here!!! And if I had to, I'd sure pile up leaves, my pack and shoes, and other stuff underneath me!

I guess I'm pretty cavalier about where I hang. I figure rocky ground is for ground dwellers to worry about. I guess I should be paying more attention to my straps. I've had slips -- user error, not equipment failure -- but the result was always a slow descent to the ground.

Yeah, I put my pack below my head and upper back if the ground is sketchy.

When I was young and invincible, I would hang anywhere, even at the top of a waterfall once - with no tie in!

So what is a good solution to help prevent failures? Is there a better suspension system?
