I just use a 50 gal size plastic trash bag. When the wx gets wet and blowey, I can put stuff in it to keep it dry.

Love all the ideas, and am doing some re-thinking. There are a lot of options it seems!
Good seeing you too, Pappy!
3' x 5' for me. Tried staking but in Florida sand/soil they don't hold well. Been thinking about sewing a sleeve in each end to place a found stick thru.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
I've been using tyvek (washed many times) under my hammock and as a something I can pull out on the trail to spread out for break. I just had Jared at simply light designs make me a rain kilt that is rectangular with loop tieouts so I can use it as a sil ground cloth. Has another use as a tarp door. Dimensions are 55 by 28. I haven't gotten to use it on a trip yet, but photo is from when I opened up the package.

I'd suggest a multi use piece, I us a 3×4 piece of 1.6 rip stop hemmed on all sides with spider line going through the hem with two toggles one at opposite diagonal corners. This works well as a pack cover, ground cloth, gear hammock and a extra bit to help tarp coverage in big wind storms.
By all means, let's argue about whether or not a hammock will hurt a tree. All the while ignoring the fact that there is an island of garbage the size of Texas floating in the Pacific ocean. Or how about the fact that over 75% of the world's nuclear reactors are leaking...
For car camping I used a 2x3 ft piece of indoor/outdoor carpet. For backpacking I have a piece tyvek ( washed and wadded up to reduce noise ).
Most times though I do not take any ground cloth as I find I don't need it. Boots go under the hammock ( it rained Thursday night the the Fat Butt Hang and everything under my tarp including my boots were dry )
and if I think its going to rain I hang my pack off one end of the hammock with a rain cover over the pack .
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
Mine is 3 x 4 as well and goes just in front of my hammock, but still under my tarp. I added tabs for staking it down too. For the tabs I grabbed 4 express mail pouches at the post office and cut off the sticky edge they use to seal them shut. The pouches are Tyvek so they stick great. Stick one side to the front and one to the back on the corners and Bob's your uncle. Use the empty, tabless pouches to make some stuff sacks.
Incidentally the glued tabbed edge on the pouches makes crafting a stuff sack easy and no sew. Remove the tab and cut it into pieces. Use the pieces like tape, roll the top edge inward adding a drawstring and tape it down. Stuff holds great.
I would rather be in the woods... my dog would rather be in the pool. My wife thinks we are both nuts.
Mine is 3x4
You just gave me the idea to take a bunch of those express mail pouches and lay them so that you can stick one to the next using the strips and get a free groundsheet! lol
Seriously, what you said about making stakedown loops from that stuff is genius.
I use a 2x3 piece of tyvek, reinforce the corners with duct tape, poke a hole through each corner, and use trail sticks to stake it down.
