I don't trust my life to 2 or 3 runs of stitching no matter how good they are
I understand your worries, however it is interesting that 90% of hammock manufacturers use sewn end channels. Seems legit to me. No need for a capital NO as if to say this is bad advice, when it is really a matter of personal preference.

I larks-head the end of a Whoopie directly to the fabric. I too am a Newbie and wonder if the Continuous Loop is needed if you are not running it through the channel. To me less is more; but I think I may be missing something.

A continuous loop is not needed even if you are running something thru the channel. Many people have whoopies going directly through the channel, or in your case, larksheaded onto the gather. Continuous loops, do add for a ton of flexibility in suspension, and a short removable connection.

A big benefit of using the continuous loop is, as Intimidator says, is that it enables simple disconnection of your suspension. This is most handy for me when my suspension is wet or gets tree sap, etc., and I don't want my hammock coming in contact with that.

I use loops so I can swap out suspensions easily between hammocks (not an issue if you only have one hammock), to separate wet suspension from the hammock when packing up, and to create a water break by using a whoopie hook or multi buckle.

But, none of that is necessary... it's just what I find works best for me. HYOH, just make sure you have fun.

I take your point but here is a similar type point to consider.

100% of car manufacturers used solid collum steering wheels in their vehicles and the number of low impact crashes that produced fatalities due to chest compression(read crushing) was staggering.
Now legislation in most countries has forced the adoption of collapsible steering wheels and this type of similar accident is now survivable.
Hammocking has an added risk factor over ground camping so safer is better.
There is also the sheer embarresment of falling from low hights without injury.
I don't know which is worse especially around ground hogs

Won't trust professionally sewn end channels, that have been successfully used since the beginning of ripstop camping hammocks......... but trust your life (???) to less than 1/8" braided rope spliced by an amateur.......... and then compare it all to a car crash???..........interesting.......

I guess I'm doomed to die from an 18" fall then....... if I ever fall........and am frail enough to be injured by said fall.....

I'll stick with sewn end channels and Amsteel continuous loops - I've got six years of hanging with them. I'd be interested to know how one concludes hammocking is riskier than tent camping. I haven't seen any scientific studies on that.

You can't fall out of a tent.
Camping has all the risks that go with camping regardless of the type but hammock camping adds the added risk of suspending yourself from various heights to sleep.

U am not just satisfied with hanging 1/2 metre off the ground.
I love the tentsile thing and hanging a hammock at height as well.
