I was reading the post about also using the magnet system not only for holding my netting but to hold my uq as well..
Although at first i thought this to be a great idea i have to think at some point my rig is gonna start gettin heavy..
Maybe just one or two per side to help with those center gaps, but not for the whole uq suspention.
I also have not been able to find magnets that are strong enough yet come in at less than a gram apiece.... gonna keep looking..

Zilla, the small magnets I use to hold the center of my underquilt up against the bottom of a hammock are discs 1/4" in diameter and 1/16" thick. They weigh .39 grams. They are just barely strong enough to do that job, and I need to put them in short channels so they can slide around a bit because magnets have good peel strength but poor shear strength. These magnets wouldn't be strong enough to hold the edges of an underquilt where there are more shear forces, but they can be doubled up and still weigh less than a gram. The other size I use when I need more holding power is 1/2" diameter by 1/8" thick. They weigh 3.1 grams. Something in between these sizes might be better.

heads up, a member reported to me a failure of spyderline used in the Becket hitch, where the cover tore on the spectra. He's 230 lbs. Said he saw signs of compression on the cord before the tear occurred.

If you're using spyderline and the Becket hitch, remember that the force on the hitch is affected by geometry (flat angle == more force) and keep an eye on the cord.

Before the Becket hitch I used spyderline in a variety of ways where there was compression on a bight, but always after the spyderline had wrapped around an aluminum ring first, and the wrap would bleed off much of the force on the bight first.

    be careful out there!

I'm a little under 230 and was thinking about using the mountainsmith poles as spreaders on my diy hiking dad style bridge. I've done a couple searches to see what the weights of people using them are. Any reason I shouldn't or couldn't?

I use them and weigh 240. I have them set at 36". I do have a 3/16" wooden dowel insert in mine and 32" suspension triangles.

How long is the wooden dowel in yours? Mine would be set at 36 as well
