Does a bug net need a stuff sack?

I'm DIYing a bug net this weekend. My aftermarket net has a built-in stuff sack (but it's also overbuilt in lots of ways). The way I pack my hiking pack, I simply stuff all my hammock and sleeping system into a trash bag in the bottom of the pack, no stuff sacks. How durable is noseeum netting? Would it benefit from a stuff sack or is it unnecessary? My only real concern is the zippers on my sleeping bag (don't have a top quilt yet).

As long as you pack carefully, you shouldn't have an issue w your net (make sure zipper is folded/stuffed toward inside). I would be more concerned with the zipper teeth catching on my hammock. Given the way you don't use stuff sacks, I wouldn't bother taking my net off my hammock until the end of your bug season. Just stuff it along with your hammock. But then, I'm lazy like that!

I have a Fronkey style MYOG net. If it's going to be buggy I just put it on my hammock and they both go in my hammock stuff sack. I didn't want to mess with making a sack for it, plus I have an issue with stuff sack making where they always come out about 1" too short.

I leave mine on the hammock and just stuff it into the hammocks double ended stuff sack. If I just want the hammock deployed I just stuff the bugnet into the stuffsack at the end and cinch it up.

I agree with leaving it on the hammock.

However, if I was concerned w/durability (I also rarely use stuffsacks) I'd put it inside my hammock for packing.

Thanks for the input, everybody! Sounds like the consensus is to not worry about a stuff sack... there's a better way... I'll play around with my setup and see what works best for me. I built a Fronkey net with wide mouth openings on the ends (w shock cord) so I can slide it over my hammock w. under quilt. I'm really happy with how it turned out. Now on to the tarp...

It is very easy to sew a stuff sack from some bug net remnants.

+1 It's always good to have it ready to go! As far as durability, the main thing you need to watch out for are sticks and thorns. Poking and snagging are the webbings enemies, not the scrunching or basic use.

Before you decide on such things you have to decide on the zipper solution (this is one of the hardest decisions). I have an attached (not completely removable) bug net combined with a completely removable top cover. For both things I use little bug net stuff sacks which hang on glove hooks invisible in my hammock ends and which are stuffed into my hammock stuff sack when I roll my hammock together.
