    STL Tarp tie outs

I made myself a set of STL's copying the design on Whoopieslings.com . They are .1.7 Zing It. Initially they appeared to work wonderfully. I ran into an issue this weekend. I got caught in a thunderstorm and found myself needing to tighten my tie outs. Actually I had the tarp in baker hut mode and needed to lower it, hence needed to shorten the tie outs. Once wet, the prussiks got almost too tight to slide. I had to really yank on those lines while holding the knot for them to budge. I even have a small cut from the line digging into my finger. Once the weather improved I experimented with the prussiks. Maybe I have too many wraps. They are 3 wrap prussiks. I tried 2 - nope wouldn't hold on that slippery line. So now I seek a new method of tightening the lines.

Can't deny that they work though . When you move them you should unravel it a bit then pull up on it to tighten and you will be one happy camper! I had the same situation in wet weather but unraveling a bit helps a ton.

+1 to both of the comments above.

I use the kleimheist for my CRL, and as long as I pull on the tarp tie-out to give the knot some slack, I've yet to have a problem with adjusting--wet or dry. However, it's also worth noting that I don't use Zing-It, but rather the stock Hennessy tie-outs.

The kleimheist is a directional knot, and since you only ever really need your tie-outs to remain firm in one direction, well...

Perhaps a tautline hitch might work as well? I'm not familiar with how well Zing-It holds knots, though. If it would work, that might be something to look at.

I'll do some experimenting with all of these suggestions. Thanks all! There's also those little line locks in the HF store as an alternative.

My guy lines. No knots. No muss. No fuss. Can be adjusted by reaching out from under the tarp if needed.

I like your system. I think I'll do something similar, but since I've already made a bunch of soft shackle prussiks, I'll use those instead of line locks. I like the position of your shock cord more than at the stake, though, because I like the idea of making that the weak point. Thanks for sharing. Yet another great idea from this forum.

I found this post a couple weeks ago and changed mine to the same. I love this method! Simple, no knots, easy adjustment and I wish I would have thought of it. Really nice with glow in the dark line locks. Oh ya, did I mention simple? Thanks Shane!

+ 1 One of the easiest systems IMO.
