DIY KAQ for a non-asym hammock

I have been looking at the Hammock Forums DIY Gear Kick *** Quilt instructions. My question is this:

Should I keep the asym profile or modify it for more of a coffin shape? I have a DIY Speer hammock which is straight. My thinking was to move one of the darts so that they are both at shoulder level . . . hence the coffin shape. Does this really matter or am I over analyzing the issue?

    Thanks for the input

Not sure but I can effectively use my KAQ on my ENO. Works pretty good!

The KAQ tutorial is for the Potomac design which is mainly intended for the HH, A New River would be a lot easier, it is just a big rectangle. It is a lot less work and fits perfectly well with Speer,WBBB, travelers and other gathered end hammocks.

Are there any concerns or problems with air gaps/cold spots when you gather the ends of a rectangular quilt?

I bought a KAQ Potomac with a Speer hammock and they work fine together.

I think it works well. I find that I settle into the pocket/ bathtub that gathering the ends together forms. I have found though that if you try to pull them to tight it will open up on the end, opening a gap at the shock cord ends. You want it snugged down but not to the point of getting tight.

Totally the Potomac with work with other hammocks. But the OP was asking about making a quilt, and the work that goes into a Rectangular UQ is huge amount less than what goes into a Potomac. Hours and hours less time, and much simpler. I was only hoping to save the OP from extra work that is not specifically necessary to fit the hammock stated. If you are buying one, get the one that you most like, but no need to do all the channels, darts and asym shape if they did not need to. JMO

I've been thinking of making a KAQ type design for my non-asym use. I'm going to put the darts in the short ends in the center. I think that will eliminate the problem when pulled tight.
