Talking Christmas sale BMBH on the way to me!

I can't wait--I've got a Christmas sale BMBH on the way! It looks like I was one of the final orders before JRB became temporarily out of stock.

I plan to use it indoors to coax my wife (die hard side sleeper) into grudging acceptance of the comforts of hammock sleeping. Perhaps someday she will join me and my girls on a campout hang. The comments I've seen in this forum have given me hope, with several wives seeming to have usurped newly arrived BMBHs.

The worst case scenario is that she doesn't go for it, and then I get another hammock to use with my also newly-purchased, slightly-used JRB Nest (thanks Burning Cedar!)

p.s. Merry Christmas to all, and God bless the Jacks.

    Hanging issues.

I received my BMBH yesterday and of course went straight to the basement to set it up. I think I will not be able to overcome the problem of having the two hanging hooks set in the walls at even heights--there's no way I can figure out how to get the head end of the hammock a few inches higher than the foot end (without adding another hook to the wall), so there is a little bit of a "head down" feeling to it during my tests. A big pillow alleviates this somewhat. I also noticed the pseudo-shoulder squeeze mentioned by others, and was able to figure out ways to avoid it.

Overall, I was not surprised that the BMBH is as advertised and discussed on the forums. The underquilt fit and hanging procedure is really nice. I can't wait to try it out sleeping in the basement tonight. The wife tried it out and said that it was better than past hammocks she's tried, but that it feels a little claustrophobic. Some people are just not hammock lovers, I guess. Maybe time and exposure to its glories will wear her down.

Based on the premise that you are using the supplied webbing and tri-glides to attach your hammock to your mounting points, could you shorten the length of the webbing on the "head end" of the hammock as compared to the "foot end" of the hammock?

I tried shortening one end, but it didn't seem to make much of a difference in the slope of the hammock. I've read here that the geometry of the suspension and the knack to setting it up are different for a bridge hammock than gathered end hammocks, and my only other hammock experience is with gathered ends. I'm going to keep playing around with it, and I still haven't had a chance to sleep the night in it, so I'm still in the honeymoon period.

Yes, I definitely need my head end as much as 6" higher than the foot end with the BMBH, just the opposite with my gathered ends. I can mostly accomplish this with a very short length of webbing on the head end when using my stand, but I also can make one end higher with the stand. But, it is possible to go to far and end up sliding towards the foot end.

I don't suppose there is any way to raise or lower one of the hooks?

It's a delicate balance I have going in the household with the overall number of hammocks and the number of hooks drilled into the walls. I may be able to sneak another one in there, so that's a good idea if my first sleep in the BMBH turns out to be too skewed.

I wonder if suspending your hammock with whoopies whilst in the house would give you a better range of adjustment.

    BMBH comfort update.

Thanks to the JRB Nest and a Christmas gift of a sheepskin bedcover, which fits inside the BMBH and has corner elastics that attach to the mini-carabiners of the suspension system, I had the best sleep ever in a hammock last night, without a breaking-in period or the usual night or two it takes for me to get used to sleeping in a hammock again. The even height of each end of the hammock didn't bother me.

Thanks again, Jacks. I look forward to trying it outdoors.

The BMBH is a great setup and I will never understand why it does not get the same lip service around here as others around here.

Please tell us more about the sheepskin bedcover!

Hopefully, no one ever pays any hammock around here lip service.
