    Thanks Lepmeister!

    I'm having fun.

I'm planning on taking my 5yr old out for his first night.

We'll probably bunk up under one tarp.

I just need to figure out a workable bugnet for two hammocks.

    And.......

Does anyone know how I can find out about the viability of using a Hammock for a South Island New Zealand through hike?

I want to do the Leslie Karamea walk with my father in a few months!

    Take care.

    The Pooka

Anyone got any other good Aussie suppliers of hammock related stuff?
Thanks for this lead. I think AMTC also sells Amsteel.
Apart from Spotlight, where in Australia can we get rip stop to DIY hammocks etc. Any ideas guys?

    hey all

am a very interested newbie; but am from melbourne in Australia.

Not a lot written re: laws of hammock camping in the NP's; but I imagine it will be frowned upon by the rangers, if not other ground dwellers.

anyone had any experience in victoria? I tend to camp when I'm rock climbing, so Grampians or Arapalies are common for me. Am keen to get into a little more legitimate hiking such as the Great Ocean Road trek, but from what I've read better off taking a tent along that trail.

had lined up a hammock + tarp from WB, and just about to hit send when i had this panicked epiphany. Don't really want to splash out the cash only to find out I end up on the ground anyway...

    cheers, hacksaw

Brisbane hanger here. Hoping to meet other Aussie hangers.

Re NP regulations, I've not come across any anti-hammock policies yet but have not looked TBH. I'd imagine they wouldn't like hammocks much, given all the other stringent regulations in NP areas and general mistrust of anything "unorthodox"...

Some of the more experienced Aussie hangers may be able to shed light on this?

    Cheers,

    TL

That's not to say you couldn't hang in State Forrest reserves and other areas though... Go on buy the hammock, you know you want to!

As far as I know there is no policy, I have been given conflicting advice from Parks and Wildlife down here in Tassie but essentially there is no policy either way. As long as you practice minimum impact camping, always use tree straps etc you should be fine.

You can also give then this link if you have any problems http://lnt.org/blog/hammock-camping
