To the best of my knowledge, there have been no unplanned descents due to the failure of Amsteel or properly tied knots.

FWIW, I fish for big catfish with this stuff (65# PowerPro), using a Palomar knot exclusively. The only failure I've experienced has been when I've been hung up on something, and had no choice but to break off. It's not an easy thing to do.

The offshore boys that really push their tackle to the limits use knots with lots and lots of turns and wraps.

Interesting. I hang from Spectra (similar to Amsteel) tied in figure 8 knots, & in 4 years of near constant use I have no slippage. Granted I have not loaded the knot to failure, I still feel the figure 8 holds well enough for our use.
Maybe come spring I'll do a Mythbuster type failure test & see what happens as I add on the weight.

I have been wanting to try the marlin spiked hitch. Is that out of the question for Amsteel? That would lighten my set up by a couple grams compared to the WS.

Not at all. As long as you can make a loop at the end of your suspension, you can marlinspike. How that loop is formed is what's up for debate.

My loop is a buried loop made like in the videos. I added some fishing line sewn through both layers of Amsteel to prevent the bury from coming back out. I don't think this would happen as there is a lot of pressure in the larkshead on the loop.

I've tried a few times but it always ends up flipping over on itself. It still held but is very difficult to remove. Maybe a half hitch on the tail would stop this from happening?

Keep your eyes and ears open. There is going to be a major day of testing in the coming weeks.

A member has offered to send me several configurations of knots and hitches using cord and webbing.

If anyone wants a specific knot tested in 7/64 Amsteel Blue, let me know. Same with the Dynaglide. Or zing it.

I tie/whip my hammock ends with a double sheet bend in Amsteel, and back the tail up with an Ashley Stopper Knot. I leave the stopper knot just a bit out so I can see if the knot creeps, and have yet to see it cinch down.

I really doubt you'd have a way of doing it Opie, but I'd love to see if the amsteel rips the fabric before the sheet bend fails.

It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Formerly known as Acercanto, my trail name is MacGuyver to some, and Pucker Factor to others.

Would small, knot-free closed loops for attaching ring buckles and cinch buckles be doable, or would they be overly bulky?

Well, it would be possible. Just need a piece of the fabric you use for your hammocks. I could do a mini mock-up with say 10" of fabric to mimic the hammock and then the suspension on either end.

Im assuming it looks like this..with the larger rope representing your hammock fabric.
