Looking for hammock sites in RMNP campgrounds.

    Hey all,

Need some help. I'm heading to rocky Mountain National Park this July and was planning to stay on the east side of the park the first night and the West side the second night. Looks like alot of the silver are open. ANY help is appreciated.

While I'm at it, if you have any suggestions for maroon Bells car camping sites as well.... Ill take em! I found two good sites but always looking for more.

Ending the trip in Chicago Basin doing 14ers and staying at Black Canyon another night. Ending at a show at Red rocks... Again, if you have experience with any of these places and camping I will take it! Many thanks!

When I was at maroon bells I did not see any car camping and the first camping spot on the trail was closed due to high bear activity. I would call the operation that handles the busing to maroon bells

Thank you... That area is my problem now as I have booked sites for RMNP. I can find a lot of small campsites, but they are full or first come/first serve.

Not many trees out there. Thank God for Google Earth!

In addition to Google Earth, you can look at campsites on this website: CLICK HERE. It's hit or miss--better coverage out west. But they seem to have just Glacier Basin (all 151 sites) and Moraine Park (all 187 sites!) in RMNP. Still, it may help you plan your trip. A broader search by state may help too. Have fun!!!

If staying at Red Rocks, make sure you go up into the mountains. The campgrounds in the city (Chatfield state park, Bear Creek Lake, etc.) are all pretty barren - and state parks in CO don't allow hammocks. I'd recommend going up I-70 and doing a bit of research in advance - something near Idaho Springs or Georgetown should work fine. Or, if you're willing to hike a mile or so in, White Ranch Park is a pretty little backpacking spot about 30 mins from Red Rocks that allows hammocks.

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with Maroon Bells or RMNP car camping spots. Most of the backpacking spots I've used in both areas are fine for hammocks...
