The specs on your 3 season crowsnest page are confusing and conflicting. 900 fill down is good to 20 deg and 800 fill down is good to 20 deg? But when using 900 fill subtract 5 deg? Wasn't the 3 season crowsnest rated to 20 deg when 900 fill was the default?

I might be misunderstanding your question here, it seems like you think that a 900 down quilt must be better than an 800 down quilt.....if so, maybe this will help.

Trapped air, measured as loft (i.e. thickness), is what the quilts are providing.

So it is the cubic inches of down that matters.

Down [cubic inches] = Down Weight [oz] x Down Fill Power [cubic inches per oz]

The advantage of 800 or 900(!) down over 600 down is that less weight is needed for the same volume.

i understand what he's saying. it is confusing to me as well. i think stormcrow uses the same amount (ounces) of down in say, the 3 season crowsnest (800 or 900 fill). so technically a 900 fill crowsnest will be warm to 15 instead of 20.

    BUT...

the old "crowsnest" was 900 fill only, and that was down to 20. so there's where the confusion comes in i think...

    yeah, i can see that...

I expect that the new rating is probably due to the first rating being too conservative

cold weather sleeping bags also have construction features like draft tube and "fitted" hoods that can improve that rating of one bag over the other even though both have the same volume of down

not sure if that is true of quilts

TYVM I was having difficulty understanding that also. This makes it more understandable...!

how are we standing on keeping this updated? I've only been shopping for TQs for a short while now so I wouldn't know if the specs are correct or not.
