    I agree with Kayak. Teach them knots. 10 is not too young and what better way to learn then by having your knot give up putting you on the ground.

    I am a cub scout den leader dealing with 10 yro cub scouts. I agree that daisy chains are safer. I have a couple of kids who still lack the fine motor skills to tie knots, even with lots of practice. It is not that they are too young, but some of them have developmental issues.

    This could have been written by me! My den just crossed over to Bears. All 12 of them. I had a hard enough time teaching them the square knot last year. It will be years before a few of them are ready for larks heads, j-bends, or anything more complicated than tying their shoes. It's scary how many kids have issues, of one form or another. Next year I get to teach them knife-craft. I'm afraid. Very afraid.

    Joe226- don't be afraid of teaching knife skills to Bears- just think of it as an opportunity to also teach real first aid. Ha, ha just kidding (I think).
