    Unhappy First Night in Hammock

Well, I attempted to take my 3 year old out backpacking so he could have his first night in the new speer hammock I made for him. Unfortunately we ended up near a swamp with a major storm rolling in. The bugs near the swamp were terrible. I started seeing lightning off in the distance too.

We decided to head back to the car around 7:15. We were going to look for a campsite in the area, but it started pouring so we just headed home.

Sorry the weather didn't cooperate with you outing. I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago; I set up at a friends house and just as I finished there were 2 really bad lighting strikes very close to my site. I also broke down and headed to the house. Rain I can handle but lighting is another matter altogether.

I bet some sort of bug protection will be your next project, huh?

Yes, I have to make some sort of head net, or something. I have plenty of extra noseeum netting left over from my speer hammock project...lol

Funny, I went camping out in a swamp a couple days ago. There was bad weather moving also. But I had just finished my bug net like two hours before. The annoying thing was hearing mosquitoes all night trying to get into my hammock.

I think I may coat my bugnet and hammock bottom with Permethrin.

I use Permethrin on my clothes and it seems to work pretty well.
