    Polyester Microfiber Ripstop

I've wanted to make a gathered end hammock out of microfiber ever since TeeDee talked about how much he loved it for his bridge hammocks.
JerryW found some Polyester Microfiber Ripstop at Rockywoods Fabrics. It has a very nice, soft feel to it with one side slick and the other has some grip to it...very little or no stretch. So, I ordered 4 yds and made a single layer, gathered hammock.
    Specs
    Fabric ~ black, Microfiber Ripstop - 1.92 oz/yd - 132" (11') x 58" - 111" ridgeline (same proportions as a Blackbird) - gathered/whipped like a Blackbird also
Weight ~ 15 oz including whoopie slings, tree huggers and toggles

The extra length made a big difference...it lays very, very flat
very wind resistant...constant 10-15 mph wind today and couldn't feel it through the hammock body

I had to lengthen the suspension on my UQ to fit better, but overall, very impressed with the softness and flat lie. highly recommended

The only downside so far...STATIC! it was amazing how much static it built up testing outside. I'm guessing that should lessen as it is used more.

Jerry is making one that will rival the Great Wall of China and I'm sure he will chime it

    Pics

know how to get rid of static?

Looks good ac! I have to give credit to TeeDee. He's the one that pointed me to this fabric.

    I like the static pics!

Hopefully I'll get some pics of mine tomorrow. Double layer(same polyester plus 1.1 ripstop), full zip bugnet, enclosed ends. Similar to my first hammock, but 132" long and better attention to detail when sewing.

    yea
by proportions, I meant the length of the ridgeline vs the overall hammock length
Blackbird is 120" long with a 101" ridgeline
this one is 132" long with a 111" ridgeline...same proportion
    sorry for the confusion

    Very Nice Job AC...
    I Like Black Too.
Always wondered why it wasn't a color choice for the WBBB...
There is antistatic spray for monitors and clothes, wonder if it would work for a hammock?
