    xenon sil 5300 tarp

I finished my xenon sil 5300 dark olive (thanks Dutch for the great supplies) tarp a week or so ago and finally got out on some trails in a local state park to pitch it. It has a 12' ridgeline and about 4.5' on each side. I put 2 additional guy out points on each side about 30" in from the corners to pitch in hex shape and close off the ends a little if necessary in wind and rain. I have one side pitched from the corner to the ground and the other side in hex shape porch mode using my trekking poles. I am very satisfied with the first test pitch and am looking forward to using in on a 4-day trip in 2 weeks.

Looking good. I'm at the start of making one also, except in Xenon 0.9 fabric. I got the kit from MYG when the sale was running. Following the instructions on that site they don't use cat cuts with this fabric either, so I didn't put them in. I have everything cut and the triangles and pullout re enforcements hemmed, just need to start sewing them onto the tarp pieces.

Hopefully mine turns out as good as yours looks, nice job.

Thanks! Since it isn't Nylon, I decided no cat cuts. Time will tell if that was a good decision or not. I'm using self-tensioning guy lines to take up any slack if stretching does occur. I still need to fiddle with how to set up my trekking poles to tighten up porch mode just a bit.

Thanks! I bounced back and forth between MYG and RSBTR for instructions and took my time to visualize each step. Good luck on finishing your tarp!

How do you like the Xenon 5300? Do you think it is the best option? except cuben fiber of course. I am getting ready to make one and am trying to choose a material
If you don't know where you're going, any trail will take you there...

It is a little slippery, but I found it very reasonable to work with. It pitches taught and holds it pretty well, but I did use self-tensioner guy lines just in case. I can't speak to the waterproofness because I haven't had it in the field in rain yet. In fact, I just returned from this weekend trip where you can see it pitched in a few of the pictures.
