Being that Insultex is, for all intents and purposes, a vapor barrier - anyone have any thoughts about two layers of I-tex w/space blanket in between as an UQ, or UQ extender?

I don't think so. I think the heat reflecting properties of the space blanket could boost the overall effectiveness. I could be wrong.
So far, the only breathability of the Insultex that I've been able to find is where it's sewn through. Beyond that it just seems to be a high grade, very thin ccf of some sort.

This statement really puzzled me. In our experience with Insultex Bridge Hammock (3 layers sewn to the underside of a Bridge with DWR outside) we had pretty much concluded that it is definitely not a vapor barrier.
Just to check I just went down to the basement and picked up a scrap piece and tested by trying to breath through it. Purposely picking a section not pierced by the quilting.
No problem in breathing through it.
It most definitely is not a vapor barrier.

Interesting. Very interesting. Looks like I may have been wrong there.
I think I was going by the ccf nature of the material and the water test someone did with it (none passed through) and assumed it was a VB. I just haven't had a spare moment yet to play with the stuff myself.
If it is in fact a breathable material, it's definitely jumped up a few notches on my scale.
Thanks for the breath test TiredFeet.

Just found out that both microperforation and quilting make IX breathable.

FYI, I'm thinking of buying another roll of IX after the first of the year. I figured up what it cost me to do the first one, and decided that $5 per yard is a good price.
