I've gone full circle in the last couple of years.
Started out with end tie-outs, went to a full-length ridgeline with the tarp hung over with prusik tensioners.
Then went to a CRL, the way Derek Hansen describes here,

Both with tarp under and tarp over.

Now I am back with end tie-outs. But instead of simple knotting, I take the tie-out (attached to the tarp), round the tree and back to a loop alien (also attached to the tarp). Very quick to adjust and lock off.

The zing-it definitely makes things difficult with load applied. The only difference I made from the 'normal' soft shackle was to make the loop-closure end a little bigger, so I have more room to play with when disengaging the soft shackle. I typically keep the tarp on the CRL (the CRL is over my tarp when hung). In the stuff sack, this is a HUGE mess - working on making some No-Seeum snake skins to try and keep the CRL from tangling with other parts of the RL.

Not sure if I really did anything earth-shattering when making my soft shackle prussiks. Make the diameter of the closed shackle so that you have plenty of room to work with engaging and disengaging the shackle, but also keeping good tension on the CRL. I tried klemheists (sp?), but couldn't get them to hold as well as the prussik... I probably did something wrong when tying the klem...

Right now I am using a CRL. But I think I am going back to two end lines with Loop Aliens. I like the CRL above the tarp as it keeps the pole mod off the ridge but two end lines just seem to just work easier with my snake skins.

I think most use between 30-35 feet. I use 32'.

I currently have around 50ft but plan on trimming it down once I get an idea how much I actually use in the woods. I can tell you that 50ft is most likely much too long
Then again I do have an extra bit of line required since I swapped out the prussik for a loop back to a mini linelok...
