Couple of questions about the Ice Age Trail Chippewa Moraine section

I just learned about this trail recently and am thinking about making the drive over there from MN to try it out this summer. I haven't been able to find a lot of info online. Wondering if anyone here could tell me how it works.

It sounds like you have to reserve your sites in advance, is that correct? Where can you park? I found a PDF with a bunch of parking options listed and they almost all say no overnight parking.

If anyone has experience on this trail that would be appreciated. Or any tips like which campsites are the best or what to look out for.

Hey thanks. Any info would be great.

I haven't tried contacting them yet. I'm in no hurry and just thought maybe someone here would know. I won't be able to go till late summer or early fall.

I am really surprised that I never hear anything about this trail considering it is so long. Hopefully someone will chime in with some good info because I have questions about the trail too.

So I actually have managed to find some decent info online about this. I gotta say, Wisconsin could use some better web designers. The site is not very user friendly.

Here is a bunch of recommended trips. If you click on the Northwest 2 day trip, they will email you an itineary for the Chippewa Morraine section.

I also found this excerpt from the guidebook which Includes the Northwest section.

Sorry, forgot to post up what I found What you've posted is the same info I have though. It's a relatively short section, which kind of explains the lack of parking.

This might be of some help http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/name/c...aine/todo.html if you haven't seen it already

Backpack shelters on the IAT can only be reserved, in advance, by phone through ReserveAmerica

What are your questions? I have yet to hike the NW section of the trail, but I've hiked lots of the central, NE and SE sections.

As for not hearing about it, we Wisconsinites try not to talk up our hidden gems too much. We learned our lessons about talking to out of staters with Lake Geneva and the Dells.
