So I'm doing the research to embark on making my first down UQ. yea!
In looking around, I find that buying "new" 850 Goose Down is pretty steep at over $10/oz.
I could buy an old ebay down sleeping bag with, what I'd have to guess, around 10oz of 650 Down for under $40.
Or I could buy some down pillows from Overstock.com with 34 oz of unknown Down for $33
My basic assumption is always that "you get what you pay for". But this is a pretty dramatic difference in price. Is the new down really 2x better than salvaged 650 sleeping bag down, or 10x better than what I'd find inside the pillows?
Of course, If I'm going to go to the trouble of sewing an UQ, it wouldn't make sense to put crappy down in it to save a few bucks. On the other hand, if I'm going to pay a premium, I'd like to know what I'm getting for my $.
Need some schooling here.
thanks,
