    Cool Ta-Da! DIY Set-up

Thank you to all the folks who ask questions and for all the folks who answer them! I have greatly appreciated all of your insights and foibles and successes to learn from. Last week I finished (for now) my hammock set-up.

    IMAG0502.jpg IMAG0501.jpg

RSBTR 12' Hex tarp from silpoly membrane (my nod to LNT coloring)
Double layer 1.0 HyperD gathered hammock (hot pink and Morroccan blue)
    NS50 Noseeum bug net
    Webbing tree wraps
    Amsteel whoopie slings
    Hot pink multi-buckles
DIY Enlightened Equipment Revelation quilt (royal purple)

I am so happy with the results. The colors are bright and beautiful and just what I wanted. Sleeping in the hammock has been great even with loads of mosquitoes, a night of hard rain, and nights of cool, clear weather all snug and warm off the ground. So light! So comfy!

The materials and hex tarp instructions came from RSBTR. The instructions for making the hammock and bug net came from DIYGear.com. The quilt was made at home but based on Tim Marshall's Enlightened Equipment Revelation and his tremendous support and encouragement. You can bet I support these businesses every time I get the opportunity to do so.

My Boy Scouts and Venture Crew are all looking forward to learning how to make their own hammock set-ups.

So do you have an underquilt? Hard to tell from your description whether you're using pads or or what.

And a very nice set-up it is! You said your Boy Scouts and Venture Crew are all looking forward to learning how to make their own hammock set-ups. If I can help them out with material shoot me a PM.

Isn't it satisfying to fill in all those fields under your avatar with: DIY...?

Currently I am using my ThermaRest Zlite sleeping pad. It is a double layer hammock so I can slip that between the layers to keep me warm on my backside. I have the fabrics, down, and components to make an underquilt. I just need to be home long enough to do it.

Here you go. The footbox is closed with velcro. The ties are skinny shockcord, cordlocks, and grosgrain ribbon. Each end can be cinched close.

My DH drew the pattern with CAD software to my specifications. Tim Marshall of Enlightened Equipment had a wealth of information and kind support for me. I purchased the down from http://www.downlinens.com/products/premium-washed-down. I made a second one in red/grey for my good friend when she finished Army Basic and AIT. It will come in handy while she is overseas in Korea. (No photo of that one. I finished it and it went out the door.)

IMAG0508.jpg IMAG0507.jpg quiltschematic.jpgSorry about the messy diagram. It sat out on my counter/work surface for a long time.
