hammock tent by lawson hammocks

Does anyone have experience with this hammock? I've got a Clark Jungle hammock and I'm rather confined for a long night and would like to have something that has the "floor space" of my 2 man tent. I travel by motorcycle so pack size is not terribly important.

I've thought of trying to mount my tent on a rope hammock with hinges installed on the end cross beams (?) but would like to hear from the forum.

I just joined and am amazed and glad to see this devotion to hammocks for camping. Unbelievable site.

For more floor space, I'd try a bigger tarp first. Try a 10 x 12 tarp, you'll get much more coverage, then you can add a simple groundcloth.

There are two possible interpretations of your post...

- one is that you want more room on the ground beneath your hammock. That could be solved by upgrading to a larger tarp, as gargoyle said.

- the other is that you want more room INSIDE your hammock. I'm guessing this is what you meant to say, since other folks have complained about the claustrophobic feeling inside the clark in the past.

If it's the second one, there are LOTS AND LOTS of options for hammocks which are more spacious inside. The warbonnet blackbird, a simple gathered end hammock with separate net, the switchback, and many, many more, are all going to feel more spacious than that clark.

The lawson hammock tents sure look to be massive on the inside, and might possibly be the most spacious hammocks I've ever seen, so if you're not worried about the weight or bulk, they might be an excellent choice. Very few folks on these forums have tried them, so make sure to give us a detailed report if you do

That was fast. To be more clear, I want to be able to move around more and have my riding gear inside with me to keep the gear free of natures creatures and water. Also I want to have it out of sight when I'm for a walk or whatever.
I do find the Clark very comfortable for a few hours but I feel like a mummy and the one time I slept in it I had to take a change with my glasses, hoping they would stay on top of me and not end up under me, bent.
Thanks for the replies and the links. I don't think I'll ever return to the ground, I'm just looking for the perfect hammock. I'll probably give the Lawson a try, add something for the gear and sell the Clark. I wish I'd found you guys sooner.

You don't HAVE to use the Clark tarps with your Clark hammock. Very easy to set it up with a larger tarp. I've swapped to a WBBB for my main hammock now, but . . . I was a Clark guy for a long time. And for moving around under cover . . . I got a 10x12 tarp from OES.

When I get to a campground, I just go ahead and change out of all of my kevlar gear.. I don't mind standing around in my under-armour boxer-jocks and long motorcycle socks

for a couple of seconds while I change into pack pants/shorts.

And I've got hard luggage on my bike, so I just lock my kevlar suit in there, along with my GPS, phone, and wallet. And usually hang my helmet from the suspension line to the hammock, under the tarp. Or drop some of that stuff in my gear-hammock.

I turn my boots upside down between the luggage and the bike plastics. Or on the mirrors. I've seen other people put a couple of sticks in the ground and put their boots upside down on those.

There's no way for me to completely secure all of my stuff. But then it's no more secure in a giant tent either.
