I succeeded and received my WB superfly yesterday!!!!! Put it over my NX 270 and it makes me feel I'm ready for anything nature can throw at me!! Now I have to order a spare set of the Clark poles because they work great on the Superfly as spreader bars. So now Santa I'm working towards my UQ.

Anyone else use Clark poles as spreader bars for the Superfly?

I am also considering the NX 270 for motorcycle camping. Most all my travels are in late fall early spring. I am looking at night time temps in the 40's. I would think stuffing my protective/rain gear and other pieces of stay warm clothing in the pockets should be enough with a good sleeping bag. Any thoughts on this?

Jknight, the poles are actually very short and solid though the linking cord is fussy. (tempted to take them off and do it a different way or just leave them loose like my Vertex). I wouldn't hesitate to slip them in my top bag with the hammock, sleeping bag etc where they would lay flat against the rack.

As I was a tent camper first I rigged a pole-carrier on my bike rack out of PVC that worked great. It is the white tube you see along the left side of the search running through the rack. This shot was from my first hammock camping run with the Hennessey, not my NX, but frankly I learned a lot since then.

Nelson, unless you are a Heck of a hot sleeper or have a mess of clothes to roll up in the pockets I would still be looking for good insulation. The pockets are decent but don't cover everything (think 3/4 length) and it matters greatly what you put in them.

Sounds like a under quilt may be in order. Bulk is more of an issue then weight. Anyone have a photo of the z-liner in a stuff sack?

Before hiking, my activity of choice was cycling. Another sport where grams are all important. It's obviously true that you need to pack strategically and be weight conscious. However, as one of my cycling buddies once told me: "if you're trying to shave weight for your trip, it's usually easier to shed pounds from the rider than grams from the bike." Not trying to preach, just something to consider. I love my Clark. It's worth the price, and worth the weight (to me).

This is the same set up I have been thinking of doing..

Can you post pics of how you are working the spreader bar.. As I'm about to pull the trigger on the 270 and a WB Superfly.

I have the 270 in the for sale section. Anyway I put a small shock cord loop on the pull outs, than wrapped a little piece of duct tape about 1" from the end of the Clark poles, I just wrap the shock cord on the pole so it can't slide up or down

I've noticed it is a trend of a particular person. Not everyone thinks of going for the absolute minimilum weight but apparently not everyone can fathom Hang Your Own Hang.

I *own* the NX along with a few other hammocks and tents. I backpack 75% and kayak camp 25%. Mid-40's, not an athelete and love my rig. In my opinion it would be an excellent AT trail rig. After all, even a few years ago a 6+lb tent +pads, bags, etc. was considered light weight trail rig and those were just fine.before that? 15+lbs. Modern tech is nice but you don't have to go crazy on it.
Are there lighter rigs? Yes. That wasn't what they asked.
+1.. i've noticed the same trend..

Tried it, thought it was too flimsy.
