Whooooooo Wind! Splendid that you filmed on a windy day. Tough waiting??
Brilliant piece of gear for us "tarpers-who-tweak".
By the way ... love that puffy down jacket ... and hat. Backwoods style!
I loved when you said "idiosyncratic" .... words with "idio" make me grin.
Enjoyed hearing "Old Joe Clark" and "John Hardy" ..... great soundtrack on this cold day.

Could the ends be hooked to the d-rings on the bottom of tarp to reduce stakage? It would need some sort of adjustment. Would it work or be worth it? OK ... those are my tech queries.

Good to see 2Q .... I automatically thought "HEAD ON .... HEAD ON...."
    He has a tremendous voice.
    Great video!
    Great info!
    Great talent.

As I had a chance to see one in person, it was still great to see the video and on all the different tarps. Now all I have to do is clone it.

It's great to see another Griz video. I noticed you were sniffling between moving really fast setting up tarps.
    Peace Dutch

Modified slightly, you could use one of them (if they are detachable) or both (if not) as a ULA style rain wrap/kilt.

Awesome idea Grizz! Great vid too!

    Nice sewing ZQ!

What about adding velcro to the edge of your tarp and the beak?
    I ride a recumbent.
I like to HAM it up on the CW.
    I use Linux.
    I play go.
Of course I sleep in a hammock!

So these are mostly for cutting the wind and not for retaining heat, correct?
How would a beak made of mosquitoe netting compare?

Sure it would any enclosure is going to have some heat retention. The bigger it is of course the worse that is. Not sure why M. netting though unless you took the tarp to the ground and used it in summer only. Another thing the beak does is block driving rain ... and netting will just filter it!

If you had 2 of these you could have some fun by shutting in your hiking partner while they sleep.

Looks like it's going to be a winner...

That morning I was watching wind gusts of 30mph blowing light snow sideways. "Keri!" sez I, "Please clear my calendar for the afternoon!". Had to take advantage of the opportunity. In the parking lot of the Vast Virgin Forests of East-Central Illinois I saw the wind blowing tall grass and trees and I had my opening footage!

By the way ... love that puffy down jacket ... and hat. Backwoods style!
Mr GQ of the backwoods, that's me. You didn't mention the oh-so-fashionable shuggies I was wearing

I mated the corners of beak version 1 to the tarp corners that way, and found I always got a bit of a gap down there at the corner. Seems what is wanted to seal that edge is to get tension on beak corner someways past the corner of the tarp. That might be accomplished though by modding the tarp a little to put in extra tab or D-ring 12 or 18 inches from the corner, along the bottom edge. The corner of the beak could attach to that.

I knew making this that I had to have his voice in some kind of voice-over. It is SO recognizable, and professional. We make a great team he and I. He has a voice for radio, and I have a face for radio.

It's big for that (I have made such), but maybe with some tucks and folds. Or how about as a silnylon saree? Now we're talking, height of fashion.

Yes, if you had a beak that would be used with just one tarp, you could add velcro to make them mate easily.

Amen! I thought I had finally decided what tarp to buy (a Big winter tarp) but now the beaks look very versatile.
