    Hello from Alabama

Hi ... former Iron-distance triathlete and current trail runner who has taken up section hiking. While I have been a Scout leader for better than 10 years only the last 5 have been with the boys old enough to hike the backcountry. This has enabled longer trips than a simple overnight (of which, there is nothing wrong with that!)

I have recently converted to hammock hanging - and will not willingly go back. Still learning the tricks of the trade (especially as it comes to winter use) and hope to pick those up here as well as some advice on trails, park rules and so forth. I mainly hike the Pinhoti Trail, the Sipsey Wilderness and the Appalachian Trail (GA/NC/TN). I have not yet done the Benton MacKaye - but that is definitely on the list.

First hike coming up is a 5 day father-son trip during the last week of July. It is the pre-send off to college trip so really looking forward to it. It will be both of our first time to hike for more than 2 days ...so definitely looking for there to be a learning curve!

Welcome from the Lake Oconee area in Georgia. Love me some Sipsey! And Benton MacKaye is on my radar too.

Thanks all ...it looks to be a good trip - albeit a hot one (hopefully it will be somewhat colder in the mountains than down here in the flatlands)!

I posted some trip questions here <-- is this forum category/section the right place?

    Hi from Memphis.
Love that Sipsey. Have been done 206 several times recently and looking to hit other trails soon.
