    Washing climashield quilts

I've got a couple of DIY quilts made from Climashield Apex 5. At some point, I'd like to wash them and I read that using a front loading machine with liquid detergent is recommended. It didn't mention a setting or water temperature and it didn't say much about drying either. What do the climashield owners here on HF suggest? I'm a little concerned about messing them up.
    Thanks

Front loaders work very well. I wash mine in the bathtub by hand then hang dry. Never had a problem doing it that way.

Thanks for the info. I never thought about washing them by hand in the tub. Good idea. And doing it by hand will show me how dirty they really are!

I was wondering the same thing. Since I don't have access to a front loading machine, by hand it is. Thanks!

Don't use regular laundry soap....it's not good for the fabrics or the insulation...most are too harsh. Get something made for the job like Nikwax Tec Wash. It won't destroy the DWR thats on the fabric and won't leave residue in the insulation like regular laundry soap will. Follow the directions on the bottle. If you can't get tec wash...then hit the baby section at the store and get some powdered Dreft...baby laundry soap, less chemicals, less residue left and also should not strip the DWR. But you can get the Nikwax from Amazon and have it in hand in 48 hours so...might as well use the stuff that is made to do what you want.

Atsko Sport Wash does a great job on gear- I've even washed down items in it. Amazon has it. We have naturally soft water so it only takes a half capful for a big load (front loader). I do all our laundry with Sport Wash now. Also, cold water is safer on insulated items and probably kinder to the DWR treatment too.

I was going to suggest the same thing. Atsko is also available on Amazon, is cheaper than Nikwax Tech Wash, smells and feels the same, and cleans very well.

If there is a laundromat in your area, you have access to a front loading machine. Just take your time with the settings on the machine.
