I might be interested, but it would depend on the date. I have a Scout trip planned for the 15th - 17th. I would probably have to do a one-nighter on Friday the 22nd.

I know where Uwharrie National Park is, but I'm not familiar with the park itself.

    Please keep me posted.

    Will watch...

Will watch the dates on this and see what happens.
Gentle raindrops and mighty oceans...neither can exist without the other.

Maybe we should do a UWharrie hang all three weekends... I might be able to do two of them!

    I found this.

    Badin Lake Hiking Trail
The Badin Lake Hiking Trail is a loop trail that follows the shore of Badin Lake for half its distance, then loops back through hardwood forest to Cove Boat Ramp. A short loop of 2.5-miles can be hiked, as well as the entire 5.6 miles. The trail was constructed by the Youth Conservation Corps in 1979 and 1980. High water levels cause some stretches to get boggy, especially near the creeks that empty into the lake. Backpackers looking for a waterfront camping experience will find it here. It is a great place to camp and fish from the shore. Easy access and gentle terrain make the Badin Lake Hiking Trail a good choice for family hikes. Keep an eye out for the bald eagles that fly over the lake.

That's one of my favorite places. I've hiked almost all the trails, and bushwhacked through a good bit of it. Plenty of parking at the south end. There are 15 or more miles of major trails, and many others that are not on any map. Lots of 200 year old roads, old weir dams, abandoned gold mines and three or four old homesteads. There is even a modern homestead on private land in the middle of the wilderness area!

If we don't do the UWharrie Trail, I would be glad to show folks around the Birkheads.

I'd be interested in trying to make Uwharrie in January, but I'll just have to see what y'all plan & how things are for me, then play it by ear.

There are tons of sites near the Uwharrie river with tons of trees. If you want to make it a hike, I would love for MacEntyre to show me around the Birkheads. I have never camped that part of the Uhwarries. Once we decide on a site, we could post the GPS coordinates here. Just curious, why are all these dates thurs, fri, sat and not fri, sat, sun?

    Just curious.

What year is your calendar? Mine is for 2010, which shows the 8th, 15th, and 22 as being Fridays.
