I've tested this setup on the trail for a few days on several trips and though I have a few tweaks to try, it works awesome. Super lite, easy and locks like a pit bull...

This is the latest in ridge lines for me. Redoleary showed me a similar set up a while back. The loop alien UFA has been fun to play with. I like the fact it slides along the cord for easy adjustment and when untying it easily comes apart. The cord doesn't get "locked" in. https://youtu.be/DDvUjXUOYw8
    Here is the UFA https://youtu.be/eopy2m54FQM
Enjoy playing with all the different methods.

I just carry a hank of 50 ft. 3mm line I buy at REI for about $5.00. In the NW, trees can be small, huge, or nonexistent. I connect to the tarp with a mini-biner at one end, go around the tree, down to the other tree, around it and a back to that end of the tarp with Figure 9 connection (Yes, I can tie a taut line hitch. but life is too short and I've spent a lot of time where rope/knots are frozen in the morning). In the spring, summer, fall I run the line over the tarp (also a place to dry out socks, etc). In the winter, if I feel I need extra support because of possible snow, I'd go under the tarp. Under the tarp is not recommended because of abrasion to the seam seal when the wind is pushing your tarp around and it can bring water under the tarp. Note that in the winter snow is not going to run down the line. But I only go under the tarp if I think it prudent because of a possible snow load.

The 50 ft, so far, has always been more than I need. But having a little extra line along isn't bad. You might have to cut some off to make a longer guy line or stand in for one that didn't make it into your kit. I bought a bunch of light weight plastic kite string winders off the internet and I keep the line wrapped on that. Once the tarp is up, any extra line is wound on the winder and secured in the notches for that purpose. Hangs at the end of the tarp, off the ground and out of the way of feet.
