That would be great. I have a WBBB 1.1 double, so you wouldn't need to bring that. I am also playing around with a DIY hammock. Hard to say when that might be done. I also have a variety of tents, but I suppose I should leave those at home.

How about January 16? Name the place and time, OldMan. It's your backyard (so to speak), so let me know and I'll be there. Hopefully others will join us, too. All are welcome. I'll have some gear to show off.

OK, January 23rd (was originally the 16th), Illahee State Park just outside of Bremerton at noon. The park has three sections. There is a loop that runs through the top of the park, a road that descends to the beach, and a camping loop off of the main loop. I believe somewhere off the main loop will be best for us to setup. There are two sheltered areas that are first come first serve, but I would not expect them to be in much demand this time of year. I will try to get the first one that is off to the right as you circle around the one way loop. If it is full I will try for the other. And failing that I'll just grab the best looking spot I can find. I have a silver Dakota pickup and will put a WWHHA sign in the back window and position it so it is visible from the road.

Since we are meeting at a park rather than an eatery, you can either pick up some food on the way, or plan on cooking some there, showing off your backcountry culinary skills using either a stove or a fire pit (although if you want to use a fire pit you should bring some wood).

Western Washington in the middle of January has a better than even chance of having water falling from the sky. And if not from the sky then from the trees. And the ground and foliage will be wet. Temps will likely be in the low 40's so be prepared. If I can get a covered area, we can likely hang hammocks inside, if not, we will be able to demonstrate, or figure out, how to setup camp in the rain.

The goal of this get together, as I understand it, will be a get acquainted meeting, an opportunity to demonstrate and learn some of the fine art of hammocking, and to gauge interest in having an actual 'hang' somewhere.

    Hope to see you there!

Bummer! I knew that date sounded familiar. I have a previous engagement that will occupy me on the 16th of January. I believe I am free on all the other Saturdays in Jan. Will any others work out for you Shadowmoss?

How about the 23rd? And the state park sounds like an excellent place to meet.

Oh, and the goal would be correct, mostly to get acquainted and discuss where/when we might want to have an overnight hangout.

Bumping this up so others in the area may see it. This is open to anyone in the western WA area. One of the guys from work may come with his wife and 2.5yo daughter. I'm hoping to pick OldMan's brain about the Olympics while we hang out in our hammocks. I'm also going to put in an order for some amsteel and hope that I/we can figure out how to make whoopie slings while we are there. If it isn't too cold to work our hands that is. I have an idea on how to put things together that I haven't seen here yet, but I want to actually try it before saying much about it.

I have made a Whoopie Sling suspension as well as an OCR. Not real proficient with them yet, but I will be able to show you how to make them.

I drove through the park early this afternoon and it was almost empty, so I think we should have no problem getting one of the shelters. If the weather permits us to hang up hammocks outside, bring big slings. Many of the Douglas Firs in the area are upwards of 4 foot in diameter.
