    0 degree question

Anyone use a 0 underquilt in summer? I typically don't hike in summer but have been invited to go on a few night trip along lake superior at the end of August. I am thinking about going but a little nervous that a 0 degree HG incubator would be too much. I would just use a cheap 40 sleeping bag as a topquilt.

I have thought about buying a jarbridge or 40 degree incubator but not sure I would use it enough.

I was in a similar situation. I went with a Hammock Gear 0°. The few times I do sleep out in the summer I just loosen it way up and vent it. Never have had an issue with it being too hot, even in July weather.

Sure....you can vent it. Slide it up towards your head or pull it to the side until needed. May get a bit hot but it is August!

Hopefully in August you will not have to use the quilts full potential, although it is Lake Superior. I would not hesitate to use a 0 degree uq if you already have it are are familiar with it, but one never can have too much gear.

Just slide it out of the way or get up when you get cool and put in on. I only use a 0° underquilt on my Ridgerunner. If you have a double layer hammock you could try an inexpensive pad from Walmart as well and forego the quilt.

Lake superior in early july in the porkies a few years ago taught us that July does not equal warm nights. Lol horrible night.

My daughter used my Incubator 0 on a summer night that only got down to around 62 or so. She slept with a fleece blanket for a top quilt and claimed she was comfortable.

I've used my 0* Incubator in temps up to 70* F, with just a light fleece blanket on top. I never got too hot.
