You could probably count me in! I too thought about organizing a Hoosier Hang last year, but never got it off the ground. Keep us posted.

I wish I knew too. Who's making the decision?

It would be nice to do a loop of some kind. I thought someone was going to do a recon trip this past weekend. It also seems that there will be quite a few folks on this trip making parking a concern. Would it be a good idea do do a head count of "for sure" and "possible" people attending? Could help make a decision on where to go and also help people set up car pools to help reduce the parking problem.

    Brookville update:

Stopped by the Brookville Lake visitor's center yesterday & got a few maps of the area.
The loop (around 1/2 of the lake) is 30 miles.
The Wolf creek trail is 16 miles with the only road crossings at each end. Multiple stream crossings & a "bailout trail" at about 1/2 way, it is even called the Midway trail, leads 2.2 miles to a road then about 5 miles to the tailwater area. The rest of the trails are on, what I call the "Busy side" of the lake, but have a few pit toilets, restrooms & running water if we get there before they close for the winter.

    MY PLAN:
Park at the tail-water parking lot (west side lot) & up Wolf creek trail, about 6 - 8 miles in find a place to camp: day 2:Get to near the North trail head & camp. Then 2 days to my car.
I have a topo map from the park people, it isn't great, but should do. I will take notes & (Hopefully) pictures of areas I like for a group to-do, I will look for areas suitable to hang 10 to 30 people, with special note for areas to allow overflow just in case.
The "busy side" trail passes through a campground with all the amenities, so I will scout that out. I can not check out the toilets as they will still be closed when I get there, but I will make note of where they are.

Also near Brookville: Morgan's canoe livery (Canoes & kayaks, showers). Whitewater state park with horse rentals. Metamora park, with a restored canal side village & canal. In town: a (very small, seats about 25ish.) AYCE Chinese restaurant.

History: the lake was put in (finished) in 1975 & built as flood protection. Oddly, the last flood was in 1936/37, so it makes you wonder at the reasoning. Ie, why did it take them nearly 40 years to build the dam thing if it was so important. Cincinnati (upstream & miles away on the Ohio river) was nearly destroyed in that flood, so it was a bad year for those trying to stay dry anyway.

For those that worry about such things: nearest hospital is about 35 minutes away in Ohio. Next nearest is about 45 minutes away in Indiana. Nearest Major trauma center is about 45 minutes by helicopter (20 minutes to you, 10 to load, 15 minutes back to the hospital.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.

I think if I remember correctly it is going to be a backpacking trip. First night close to cars in case someone wants to trade out gear. Then hike some miles setup camp again, then hike back out to vehicles on Sunday.

I just realized that some may not have any idea why I am talking about going to Brookville in this forum. Early on in the discussion for a Hoosier hang, there was talk of a 2nd "Fall hangout" & Brookville was mentioned as a possible site. As I live nearby (45 minutes or so) & grew up in the area, I am doing a scouting trip in a few weeks.
This has minimal to do with the Spring hangout, but as it started here it seems the right place to keep updates until after the spring thing. So bear with me & us.

psyhco - yep that's the plan. The miles on Saturday need to be kept low enough for beginners and anyone bringing a kid. I was thinking around around 6 miles certainly no more than 8.
