Well that blows but I can understand, I'm not much for large groups either. Hope to catch ya at some other hang! I was supposed to give ya pat on the back for Lazy River Road so consider yerself patted! Unless I catch ya some other time. In wich case you will be double patted.

I agree, being a good dad is sometimes the right thing to DO! ... Plus I also agree about large groups ... I'm a very solitary person too ... 10 to 15 max. more then that would put me outside my comfort zone too ....

We will miss you Opie but maybe we will catch you at a Michigan Hang.

People I will be bringing: (4)

    Stormcrow
    Thorwren
    Hollow-Leg
    Bean

I wonder what the head count really is now. This thread is crazy long and I for one do not want to go through it looking for names....

I don't think parking is going to be as huge a deal as it could be. Grizz and some others are going to park at the opposite trail head and hiking in and at least some people will be carpooling from home. Myself Trout and Canoebie will be riding together so that right there saves 2 parking spots. I believe the parking lot will hold about 20 cars if Im not mistaken so if those who can carpool do there should be enough spaces for those who cant. Might be helpful if when we take a headcount we also put in what area we are coming from so we can easily contact those in our own area to set up car pooling. If im not mistaken there are several people from KY that may be able to help each other out. Several from OH. Maybe those of us in N IN can tote another person from our area. I realize not everyone lives near someone else and there are other factors such as schedules but If those who can do then I dont think there will be a problem.

The parking at the Northern trail had holds 20 vehicles tightly - no more. Also, you can't park on the road there. If several people hike in from the other side, then it alleviates the parking problem greatly. I was at mid 40's at my last count, but the numbers on the other thread have shown plenty more are planning on attending.

The only real issue is parking and your not going to have a backpacking event that has grown this large without that issue. I'll post the info. on the Horsemans Camp today or tomorrow. After that, it's on peoples own shoulders.

Opie, I understand the large group problem. And of course your family must come first. I will be looking forward to seeing you sometime soon, though. Mule

Anyone know how many cars the southern trailhead parking lot will hold?

I don't want to invest a bunch of drive time to spend the weekend carpooling back and forth in Indiana??? Seems like we could find something better, as far as logistics go.?

I'm riding the fence on this now, backwoods or car camping, I don't mind either, but if I wanted to carpool, I'd move to LA?!

Hopefully, something good can be worked out.

Logistics?? Big group = big logistics.
Gargoyle, and all. The parking will be worked out only to the degree that we can do it on this end. We are finding places to park, but it will be up to all of you to make plans to meet at one of these places and carpool in from there. The problem is going to be: no one will know when the parking lot is full. One thing I am planning on doing is keeping my cell phone available for others to call to make plans. I plan to be in the parking lot by 8AM and taking a group to the campground as soon as a fair number arrive, unless they want to go ahead themselves. When I go I plan to mark the trail with ribbon (color to to be determined later) all the way to the camp. With this many people, camping will be dispersed up and down the creek for perhaps a few hundred yards, but plenty of trees are available and there are two pine stands on the ridges above the central camp ground too.
I cannot emphasize enough the need to make plans in advance so that we can actually know how many cars must be parked at the parking lot on the trail head.
I wish we had some other plan and I am not opposed to looking for another plan at that . Let me consult my map specialist, Dead Reckon.

Hiking in from where Grizz is starting is and option for others too. The hike will be longer but there are two parking lots for the Nebo Ridge trail on that side. Maumee road and another on Combs road. If anyone is interested in doing this perhaps Grizz could give you some tips.

    HH 2010 Stufffffffff

    HelloHangers,

Let me throw in 2 cents worth ...?

Parking ... I've attended many large wooded gatherings and most all park on the road sides. Might be best to contact the Sherriff and get permission or a heads-up?

I'm sure this would only cause late arriving "hangers" to walk maybe an extra mile or less? Depending on how many cars ... right now I'm envisioning maybe 200?

Date ... I'm assuming you "all" know, that weekend is Indiana Youth Turkey Shoot daze? (Dress in brown or gray and you might be in trouble?) Between you and me, I'm wearing a Shooter Orange hat.

    That's it ........... my 2 cents
