    Novice Looking for Help

Hi Everyone! I live in the greater Portland, OR area and am interested in learning the basics about hammock camping and would like someone to show me the ropes. Sometime in September would be good because my August is already booked. Anyone interested in showing a newbie some tips and tricks???? Maybe a group hang???

The Idaho Hang is early September over here in Idaho. I think it will be a good group this year and new folks are always welcome. Details in the upcoming hangs page at AHE.

I'm also in Oregon and looking to take my hammock out camping. I took my hammock out a lot while in Okinawa, Japan, but I'm a little more hesitant to do it here. Next time I get a couple days off I'll probably take my Clark hammock out.

My suggestion from my limited experience? Get ENO atlas straps and affix carabiners to each end of your hammock. Makes it super quick to set up without having to tie anything! Plus, look on youtube for making a ridgeline for a rain tarp, if you use one.

I'm in Portland as well and would love a group hang! I've only been hammock camping about 2 months but have a couple of setups. September sounds about right to me.

Female hanger here I highly recommend checking out Shugs YouTube channel! There's a playlist of 12 vids just for newbies https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...752777861C2AA8
I found it extremely useful when I first started getting into hammock camping (I've only been on a handful of trips so I am by no means an expert). I'm originally from Beaverton but now live out in the country near Astoria. A group hang on a weekend in Oregon would be awesome.

Do you already have hammock gear or are you still shopping around?
