Quite true. I actually like to use the double stitch to 'frame' a proper straight stitch. I do a lot of decorative stitches with this machine.

Here is a 221 that I picked up a few weeks ago for $25. I also purchased a 500 with a nice desk as well. She was selling three machines for a deceased relative and did not care about them. It's not perfect but for $25 I think it's a bargain.

The quilters would probably pay you a couple of hundred for the 221.

Haha so true, my mom also gave me her 221. It's white/green. Neither are my first choice for gear making though. I really like the 401. I'm going to work on a Necchi Supernova next. I'll post pictures when I get it done.

i can choose one or both, but my question is which one will be best for my crafting of gear?i dont know how to use or anything about these machines except that they havent been used much.they seem kinda fancy compared to other machines i been lookn at.

I'd say all you need is straight stitch and as a bonus - reverse.
They look way more complicated than they need to be to make gear.

Either one should do for ya as long as their in good running condition. Just make sure you look for user's manuals for either one before you take it home and read up on it as much as you can.

I shared this machine a while back but it needed a base to run. I made this one and I'm pleased with how it turned out.

Here is a new machine as well, it was my mothers 221.
