I traded up from my Pfaff select 4.2 to a janome professional 1600. What a difference. Shortened my time making an UQ shell in half.
I think the amount of time I'm spending making hammocks and quilts was a bit too much on the other machine. This one is a silky smooth running tank.

Ray White is the instructor. He has been doing it for quite some time and his classes generally seem to be full. His courses are not cheap and your traveling from NC to his class location mainly in Missouri will be an added cost.
The fee for this advanced repair class will be $699.00.
Thanks. I got it cheaper. I used only an injection to insert some drops of medicine (oil) at certain locations into the machine. This was really cheap and it worked perfectly well like a miraculous healing.

I don't believe that your professional machine sews faster than a Pfaff select 4.2. But I believe your Janome is much better for you and easier to handle. Your extension table looks very nice. I think this will be my next DIY project for my old little sweetie which is completely metal class and plays in another amateur league almost as fast than yours.

It actually does sew faster... A lot faster. Plus all the work I was putting through the machine caused problems with the IDT system (walker foot).
1600 spm of the janome plus auto cutting creates a whole different playing field. At the store even the tech couldn't understand why the IDT was messing up. Believe what your want

I saw that. It looks very cool. Maybe someday.

It's about 35 year old and made in Taiwan

It's a heavy duty machine and these stitches are possible.

    For 15 bucks not bad.

Most likely it was made by Toyota (AISIN) not Riccar. I think even the Riccar R1850 was made by Toyota (AISIN) in Taiwan. A similar machine for example is the Singer 5102. I think this machine was also made by Toyota (AISIN) ELITE SEWING MACHINE MFG.CO.,LTD., Taiwan, not Singer.

I picked up a couple of machines that I didn't realize I needed until I started reading this forum...

Both are made in Japan. Lightly cleaned and lubricated both. I really like the straight stitcher. The zigzag machine runs smoothly too, but I feel like the tension is not exactly correct. Also, I broke the bobbin winder arm on the zigzag machine. It was "frozen".

    $30 with a cabinet

    ZigZag_Clone_Front
    $20 with carry case

The ZigZag looks very similar to yours.

Nice fancy machines! Currently there is a nice "Mundlos Original Victoria 88G" completely overhauled for about 100 bucks on Ebay.de. This is a class 1 machine with a top ranking. I could buy it but I am afraid of high follow-up costs for presser feet etc.

Yes, there are a lot of very fancy machines out there, but they all need some kind of good service.

I just got the following advice from an old sewing machine expert.

nylon hook gear/nylon hook drive gear/other nylon gears -> pure vaseline
metal hook gear -> universal grease on lithium basis

All other moving joints -> resin- and acid-free oil

Take WD40 only carefully in very stubborn cases. Let it have an effect one hole night and then take resin- and acid-free oil on all the places where u used WD40.

Tricks: You can use a medicine injection for using the WD40 or the oil. Another trick is to use a cotton stick for oiling.
