Yes you have to be extremely careful around the decals or you will remove the gold top layer and have silver instead.

Picked up a second machine recently - came across a 1952 Singer 301 in a thrift shop, in amazingly good condition. Complete with its original Model 40 Queen Anne table, which is interesting as the 301 was meant to be a portable machine and somebody actually bought the special kit required to mount it in a folding table. Unbelievably smooth machine, straight-stitch only but I've still got my Necchi for zigzag duty.
I have a 301 I picked up from a thrift store as well. Smooth. Rotary. One of my favs. But I have a treadle that's another.
I dug out my Singer 237 fashion Mate and cleaner her up.Now I just gotta order supplies like needles and thread.I have no needles or thread for this machine.
Nothing to see here. Keep moving.
Cheating a bit here, as have my injection done by Alamo Stitching with a Husqvarna Designer which will be replaced in October with the Husqvarna Epic... can't believe how much they cost!

This is a terrible pic of my favorite machine. It's a Necchi BU. Thrift store find, I think I paid $40 for it in a cabinet and lots of accessories. It was very dry but a good oiling and some hand turning fixed it right up. It sews very nicely. I have several machines, they are very addictive! Most are packed away right now. I will post more pics later.

Just use sewing machine oil on and around Singer decals so you do not take any gold off the decals. Stay away from decals with denatured alcohol. What appears to be "nicotine" stains on old black Singers, is actually a yellowed coat of varnish finish which really needs to stay instead of removed.

Picked this up at Goodwill for $10.00, I've never sewn before so didn't want to invest a lot. Had to replace a broken gear for $9.00 and it seems to work fine. Singer Stylist 457.
