Thanks! She liked the 221 and had 3 of them.
    Mom has the other two.

I don't have the serial number handy, but I called Singer the other day and it was Born on April 20, 1948 in Elizabeth NJ, and it's a 221-1.
I have seen some that are a little less dinged up, but it still runs great.

I have to figure out how to grease the motor at some point, do you need a special fitting for that? Like a grease gun, or can I just use some lithium grease in a can?

My Mom has about a billion attachments for it. I may post a "Name that attachment" thread if I can get pics of all of them.

See page 27...221-1-featherwight-manual.pdf for greasing the motor. DO NOT USE normal greases. The singer motor grease is widely available (at least online). This manual has many of the attachments and their directions.

Dangit. Because of this thread I'm now trolling craigslist looking for an old machine.

I love those right angle binders. Nice looking binding you got there!

A nice old singer 66. If you need the "missing" bobbin cover slide plate, they can be found on ebay.

Clean it up, oil it (with sewing machine oil) and it should do a good job for you. Many modern solvents/cleaners will cut the paint and decals. Kerosene and sewing machine oil are safe.

Check the wiring while you are at it to see if it needs replaced.

Edit...what's the serial number on the front right corner?

I have an old 66, but mine has a light on the back of it. Yours must be older. Also, yours is a Red Eye model Good find

G888xxxx. So that makes it a 1921 I think. Not bad for $9.95
